Ty Oppenlander at one point in his slalom skiing career was ranked #1 in the world for
21 and under and #8 in the world overall. His best performance at a record tournament
was 3@41' off. Then early in 2006 he busted up his ankle while test riding a new ski.
He has since had reconstructive surgery by the same surgeon that operated on football
wide receiver T.O. Later he went to Amsterdam to the world's best arthroscopic
surgeon to get the bone fragments cleaned up. It's been a long climb back to world level
competition but in 2008 Ty skied his way to a slalom world ranking of 23. His best
tournament slalom run was 1 1/2@41' off. He is leaving March 1 for the Moomba
Tournament in Australia. His goal is to ski at the Worlds this year. In order to qualify for
the World Tournament he needs to be in the top 20 by May 1.
